To my fellow GV-nursing peeps.
You sit in front of a computer, heart racing, palms
sweaty, and mind racing. All the studying, clinicals, and class moments lead
you to this moment. One test. The HESI. You have heard the stories, heard the
defeats, and heard the victories. But for some reason, your mind races to the
defeats. Instead of feeling empowered, built up, and confident, emotions of low
self-esteem rise up into your mind. Despite all the text from family and
friends, you see the defeat. You pass on the statistics of failures. Why?
Defeat is never invited. Defeat is never chosen. Defeat
doesn’t have to win. How many moments did you change a patient’s day? How many
patients have said “Thank you for being so kind to me!.” What emotions did you
experience then? Defeat. No! You felt uplifted, empowered, and a fire that
said, “I LOVE NURSING!” Yet, you still pass along defeat.
I say, No more! I say, it is defeated! Uplift your nursing colleagues, challenge them to never settle for second, inspire them to press on, and never stop growing!
So tomorrow. No matter the outcome. Choose to uplift. Choose
to share the victory. And create a revolution to end defeat. Don’t pass on
failure, but encourage us to continue to chase our dreams! That is what our
nursing family is all about!
So, my promise to you. I will never
fill your head with those who “fail” but to show you how we inspired, grew, and
chased a dream to be a Nurse.
My challenge to you. Stop seeing the defeat. See the growth
and inspire.
